The Acculturation of British Chinese Adoptees in the U.K.
Download PDFMaya’s dissertation was one of the best I have ever supervised in almost twenty years teaching at SOAS. It was such a well-designed and original study. While I am delighted she has chosen to release it on her website, I really hope she can formally publish it in revised form as a journal article or even use it as the basis for a book. I am sure it would be a best seller! One of the wonderful things about teaching at SOAS is how much we teachers can learn from our students. I learnt so much from the discussions I had with Maya over the process of her research and writing this dissertation.
Academics are usually overly enthusiastic about our own research projects and I loved seeing Maya show that same kind enthusiasm. The way she speaks and writes about her research left a deep impression on me. Often marking dissertations can be quite a painful task, as it comes at a busy time when we have just started the new academic year. But reading the final version was so enjoyable! I often like to bring back my former students to speak to current students about their research and research experiences. Therefore I was delighted to invite Maya to speak to my 2021 dissertation group about her original research.
